WPS Office - a "Microsoft Office killer" or a useless set of utilities?

What is WPS Office, who created it, what is its history?

WPS Office (Writer, Presentation and Spreadsheets) is an office suite from the Chinese company Kingsoft. It has been in development since 1989. Releases with updates are released once every 2 weeks (i.e. twice a month).

The software package provides almost the same features as Microsoft Office, but is positioned as free:

1. WPS Writer - for creating and editing texts (analog of word);
2. WPS Presentation - for presentations, booklets, marketing kits, etc. (analog of Power Point);
3. WPS Spreadsheets - for tables, data processing, charts, formulas and so on (analog of Excel).

Kingsoft Office has been working on the office package since 1989. The software has become widespread in the PRC and in the territory of Southeast Asian countries. The brand is trying to enter the market of Western Europe and America.

The main advantage, which the developers of WPS Writer, Presentation and Spreadsheets are proud of, is free use. But for office purposes and advanced users the standard set of tools is not enough. You have to buy the Premium version with advanced settings.

Is it worth downloading and installing WPS Office?

It depends on the goals and objectives of the business. The Chinese developer has provided interfaces in several languages, including Russian. It is possible to export text/table documents to PDF (although, for its editing you need the Premium version).

The office package provides tools for working with images or pdf and recognizing the information applied to them. However, to open files with some resolutions (for example, *.ods or *.odp) you need to roll additional extensions. Cloud is supported.

In terms of interface and settings, the package strongly resembles Microsoft's development of 2013.
