Is WPS Office the "Microsoft Office package killer" or a useless set of utilities?
What is WPS Office, who created it, what is the history
WPS Office (Writer, Presentation and Spreadsheets) is an office suite from the Chinese company Kingsoft. Development has been underway since 1989. Releases with updates are released 1 time in 2 weeks (i.e. 2 times a month).
The software package provides almost the same features as Microsoft Office, but at the same time it is positioned as free:
WPS Writer – for creating and editing texts (similar to word);WPS Presentation – for presentations, booklets, marketing whales, etc. (analogous to Power Point);WPS Spreadsheets – for tables, data processing, charts, formulas, and so on (analogous to Excel).
Kingsoft Office has been working on the office suite since 1989. The software has become widespread in China and in the countries of Southeast Asia. The brand is trying to enter the market of Western Europe and America.
The main advantage that the developers of WPS Writer, Presentation and Spreadsheets are proud of is free use. But for office purposes and advanced users, a standard set of tools is not enough. You have to buy the Premium version with advanced settings.
Is it worth downloading and installing WPS Office?
It depends on the goals and objectives of the business. The Chinese developer has provided interfaces in several languages, including Russian. It is possible to export text/tabular documents to PDF (although you need a Premium version to edit it).
The office package provides tools for working with images or PDFs and recognizing the information applied to them. However, to open files with certain permissions (for example, *.ods or *.odp), you need to roll additional extensions. The cloud is supported.
In terms of interface and settings, the package strongly resembles the development of Microsoft in 2013.
