Not Just Another Location: How We Launched Dedicated Servers in Germany

We could’ve simply listed the server specs — but that would’ve been too easy. Instead, we want to show you what went on behind the scenes: the nuances of the launch, the challenges we faced, and the results we’re truly proud of. So let us share a look inside the real process of launching dedicated servers in another country. It turned out to be a much more intense journey than we initially imagined.

It All Started with a Lot of Thinking

The idea of launching dedicated servers in Germany had been on our minds for a while. But every time we got close, one question came up — can we really pull it off? Germany isn’t just a mature market; it’s one of the most competitive IT locations in Europe. The country already has many hosting providers offering extremely low prices and very powerful hardware. So it made us wonder — do we even have a shot? Plus, the investment is significant. Launching dedicated servers abroad isn’t exactly cheap, especially when you’re deploying a wide range of configurations from the start.

That said, we had the same thoughts back when we entered the French market. It seemed like everything had already been claimed, and we couldn’t compete on price or features. But we took the risk. First, we launched VPS, then dedicated servers. And to our surprise, France quickly became one of the most in-demand locations in our infrastructure. That experience gave us the confidence to try again.

Power-Hungry Plans

Ideas always sound exciting. But execution is what really matters — and that’s where the hard (and often invisible) work comes in. First, you need to find a data center. Not just any facility, but one with enough power reserve, available racks, compatible carriers, and most importantly — the potential to scale in the future.

And that’s where we hit a wall. We had previously worked with Equinix in Germany, but by the time we were preparing this project, they had completely run out of available power. And this wasn’t an isolated issue. Most data centers in Germany are facing the same problem: the government officially announced that no additional power capacity would be made available. The entire industry essentially received a collective notice. No, we’re not publishing the document — but yes, it exists.

Fortunately, we found a location that ticked all the boxes. It had the right carriers, the right conditions, and the option to expand.
We secured a private server room and locked in 240 kW of power — enough to cover our long-term needs. Plus, the data center has plenty of free racks, which means we can deploy hardware in batches without splitting the infrastructure across multiple locations in the same country. Believe us, that kind of fragmentation happens more often than you’d think.

A Diet of “German Breakfasts”

Everything seemed ready — but it wasn’t.
To get things running, we needed to connect the new site to Equinix via cross-connects. We were promised it would be done by the end of February. We waited. We followed up. In the end, we got the connection on April 1. Yes, April Fools’ Day. But trust us, we weren’t laughing — this delay forced us to reschedule the launch multiple times and juggle our internal logistics.

The plan was to fill five racks at once — send the team out just once, install everything, and avoid paying for expensive “remote hands” in the future. In Europe, such services cost anywhere from €100 to €400 per hour, and every visit cuts into your budget.
But then reality kicked in. While waiting on the cross-connects, we used some of our stock for other locations. And at one point, we realized — we didn’t have enough disks for Germany. So we decided to buy them locally. Of course, the store didn’t have the full quantity in stock, so we had to wait for delivery. That delayed the launch slightly, but stopping wasn’t an option.

Hardware Ready, Team On-Site

When everything finally lined up — the cross-connects, the disks, and rack access — we hit the road. Our experienced team handled the setup, and luckily, everything went smoothly. We’re not naming the new data center — we don’t think it matters to our clients, but for our “industry colleagues,” it might be too revealing. Each decision like this takes a huge amount of work, countless calls, complex negotiations, and a lot of time.

From idea to launch, the entire process took six months — one of our longest projects yet. (For the record, India currently holds the title. That launch is still in the works and we hope to finish it by the end of April. But that’s another story.)

What PQ.Hosting Dedicated Servers in Germany Offer

Our configurations are built on proven, high-performance hardware.

Each server is equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2697Av4 processors, offering 32 physical cores and 64 threads per machine. Clock speeds start at 2.60 GHz, with Turbo Boost up to 3.60 GHz. RAM configurations range from 64 GB to 384 GB of ECC DDR4, depending on your needs. For storage, each server includes from two to four 960 GB Enterprise-grade SSDs.

All hardware is connected to racks with dual independent power supplies, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance. Network access is provided through a 10 Gbps port with no bandwidth limits or traffic caps.

You get full control over your server via the DCI panel and iLO interface. System installation and base scripts are deployed automatically. Server activation takes no more than 30 minutes after payment.

No hidden fees. No setup charges. Everything is transparent, simple, and fast. Most importantly, our pricing for dedicated servers remains consistent across all countries — that’s our principle.
